Locations & devices
This report shows who your visitors are in two practical senses: where in the world they are, and what they’re browsing on. It’s useful for deciding which markets to target, which languages to support, and which screen sizes and browsers to test against.
Everything here respects the date-range picker and any filters you’ve applied.
Locations
The Locations card has three tabs:
- Map: an interactive world map shaded by where your visitors are; hover or click a country to filter.
- Country: every country, ranked, with flags.
- City: the city, where it can be determined.
You can sort by visitors, by revenue (with Stripe connected), or by time on site.
Locations are worked out from the visitor’s IP address on the server, never by storing anything on their device. This keeps tracking privacy-friendly while still giving you a useful map of where your audience is. For more on how this works, see How tracking works.
Seeing visitors grouped under “Unknown”? That usually means Snow is seeing your hosting or proxy’s IP address instead of the real visitor’s, so it can’t place them. It’s a server-side setup detail, not a tracking bug. Set up the first-party proxy to forward the visitor’s real IP and restore accurate locations.
Devices
Snow also breaks your traffic down by what people use to browse:
- Browser: e.g. Chrome, Safari, Firefox.
- Operating system: e.g. Windows, macOS, iOS, Android.
- Device type: desktop, mobile, or tablet.
These come from the visit itself, so there’s nothing extra to set up. Use them to prioritize: if most of your traffic is mobile, that’s where your design effort should go; if a particular browser shows up a lot, make sure your site is tested there.
Drill in
Click any country, city, browser, OS, or device to filter the whole dashboard to it. Combine a few, say mobile visitors from one country, to answer sharper questions. See Filtering & date ranges.
