Sites & domains
A site is one collection of analytics in Snow. Each site has its own Site ID, its own settings, and its own data. Most people start with one site per product or company, but you can create as many as you like.
Managing your sites
From the dashboard you can:
- Add a site: give it a domain and Snow generates a unique Site ID for it.
- Rename a site: change its display name without affecting its data or Site ID.
- Delete a site: remove the site and its data. This can’t be undone, so be sure first.
Each site is independent: switching between them in the dashboard switches the reports, the settings, and the tracking snippet you install.
The primary domain
Every site has one primary domain, for example example.com. This is the
main website you’re tracking, and it’s what Snow uses to label the site and to
generate things like your public dashboard link.
You set the primary domain when you create the site.
Additional domains
A single site can accept events from more than one hostname. Add additional domains in your site’s settings to let other hostnames send events to the same site, sharing one Site ID and one set of reports.
This is the right setup when one product spans several domains. For example, a marketing site and the app behind it:
example.com: your primary domain (marketing pages)app.example.com: your application
Add app.example.com as an additional domain and both report into one site, so
a visitor’s journey from the marketing pages through to the app stays in a
single view. Install the same snippet (with
the same Site ID) on every domain.
Use one site with additional domains when the domains are really the same product and you want their data combined. Use separate sites when you want each one reported and managed on its own.
Allow all domains
If you can’t list every hostname up front (say you serve the same app across many custom or customer domains), turn on the allow all domains option in your site’s settings. With it on, the site accepts events from any hostname.
Leave it off when you can name your domains. Listing them keeps stray traffic from other sites out of your reports. If you want to filter by hostname after the fact, you can also exclude traffic by hostname.
